Lots of skill building, discussion, observation, and messy wonderful hands on creating!



Mr. Bones Part I – compare/ contrast, imaginary skeletons with observed drawings, graphite pencil and white color pencil or chalk on black construction paper. 



Cubist Fairytale Villains- Art History connection, color values, hue plus black or white, construction paper collage 



Little Red Riding Hood-Russian Matryoshka nesting/concentric circles, dolls are created using printed resources working with design, storytelling, details and composition. Sharpie/Watercolor and Watercolor pencils. 



Event Project-4 Fairytale Villains-Wicked Queen (red) , Evil Wizard (blue), Troll (green) , Witch (purple)  Picasso portrait style 




Chinese New Year Dragon- one day project using lines and geometric shapes to create a unique dragon inspired by Chinese culture. Crayon, neon crayons and color pencil. 




Dinosaur Yearbook- building on class themes, students create their own dinosaur teacher/student for a group yearbook project. Printed resources, pencil, color pencil, sharpie and crayon

First Grade 2016 -17

Rainbow Spider-crayon resist, watercolor, Sharpie and collage. Learning about spiders, body parts and habits.




Little Red Hen- Inspired by the children’s story and the folk art of Central America, 2-part project, cutting skills, drawing assembling and adding details to create a 3-D paper sculpture.




Hand-made- tracing the human hand, looking at Aboriginal Art work, adding patterns and designs, using sharpies, gel pens and color pencils on black paper. Where are we in the world?













Today I feel- Face emotions, colors showing and expressing feelings, learning to compose a face/placement of parts.

Playful Giraffe- Background was create by exploring with tempera paints, giraffe body print was made by printing with bubble wrap, and a pattern was used for the head and body only. What does a giraffe look like? Where do they live?

Start of School Self Portrait-Introduction to portraits: What do I look like?  What are the parts of the human face? What is your story? Pasta permission slips


Pasta Art Fun – learning about lines and eating some noodle art.



 Color blending pumpkins-Shapes and color blending (yellow and red to make orange). How do pumpkins grow? The Square pumpkin book

Lines straight lines curvy- continue our study of lines looking at famous works of art for inspiration. Matted work, followed a series of directions, used a ruler.


Fall Leaves-Seasonal changes, warm colors-collage with tissue, construction paper and shiny paper-white glue. Observations about nature, seasons and color theory. Add yarn later class tree?


Event Project: Wild Thing 2 sided mask/facecollage, painted paper, stamping, torn paper, working as a team.
